Why Is My Printer Printing Blank Pages?
A printer can feed paper normally and still print a blank page. The cause may be ink, toner, a print setting, or the printer itself.
What’s happening?
The first question is whether the printer can make a test page or copy. That helps show whether the problem is the printer or the computer or phone sending the job.
Common causes
- The ink or toner is empty
- The ink cartridge is not seated correctly
- The print head needs cleaning
- The document is using an unexpected print setting
- The printer has a hardware problem
Things you can safely try
- Check the printer's ink or toner level if your printer shows it. Replace an empty cartridge with the correct one.
- Make sure each cartridge is seated correctly. Do not force a cartridge into place.
- Print the printer's built-in test or status page if your model offers one.
- If the test page works, try printing a simple document. This can show whether the problem is limited to one file.
- Use the printer's normal maintenance or print-head cleaning option if your printer provides one. Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If the printer still makes blank pages, note whether the pages are completely blank or only missing certain colors.
Stop here
Stop if you are asked to take apart the printer or clean internal parts by hand. Ink and toner systems can be damaged easily. Get help if normal maintenance does not fix the problem.
