Phone & Tablet Problems

Why Won’t My Phone Connect to Wi-Fi?

A phone that will not connect to Wi-Fi may have a phone setting problem, a saved password problem, or a problem with the network.

What’s happening?

First find out whether the problem affects only your phone. If other devices can use the same Wi-Fi, the phone is the better place to start.

Common causes

  • Wi-Fi is turned off
  • The saved Wi-Fi password is wrong or old
  • The phone is too far from the router
  • The router needs a restart
  • The internet service is down

Things you can safely try

  1. Turn Wi-Fi off and back on. Also make sure Airplane Mode is off.
  2. Move closer to the router and try again.
  3. Try another phone, tablet, or computer on the same Wi-Fi. If none can get online, the problem may be with the network.
  4. If other devices work, forget the affected Wi-Fi network on your phone. Then connect again with the current password.
  5. Restart your phone and try the connection again.
  6. If every device is offline, restart the router using its normal power method. Give it several minutes to reconnect.
