Why Is My Phone Storage Full?
When phone storage is full, apps may stop updating, photos may not save, and the device may become harder to use.
What’s happening?
Your phone has a limited amount of storage space. When that space gets close to full, you may have trouble taking pictures, installing apps, downloading files, or completing updates.
Phone storage can include:
- Photos and videos
- Apps
- Messages and attachments
- Downloaded files
- Music, movies, or other offline content
- Cached or temporary data
Common causes
Storage often fills up because of:
- Large numbers of photos and videos
- Downloaded files you no longer need
- Large or unused apps
- Message attachments
- Offline music or videos
- Apps that have accumulated a lot of stored data
Things you can safely try
- Check your storage.
- Review large photos and videos.
- Check your Downloads folder.
Open your phone's storage settings to see what is taking up the most space.
Remove ones you no longer need.
Delete files you recognize and no longer need.
- Remove unused apps.
- Check that important photos and files are backed up before deleting them.
- Be careful with cloud-synced photos.
Depending on your settings, deleting a photo from your phone may also remove it from a synced cloud photo service.
- Empty Recently Deleted or Trash only after you're sure you no longer need those files.
