Why Isn’t My Email Sending or Receiving?
Your email may stop working in one direction or both directions. You may be unable to send messages, receive new messages, or do either.
What’s happening?
Your email may stop working in one direction or both directions. You may be unable to send messages, receive new messages, or do either.
The problem could be with your internet connection, email account, password, mailbox, email app, or the email service itself.
Common causes
- Internet connection problems
- Incorrect or recently changed password
- Email account problems
- A full mailbox
- A temporary email service problem
- An email app that needs an update
- A message stuck in the Outbox
Things you can safely try
- Check your internet connection.
- Check your email through the provider's official website if you normally use an app.
- Look in your Outbox.
Try opening a familiar website.
This can help determine whether the problem is with the account or just the app.
A message stuck there may prevent other messages from sending.
- Check whether new messages appear on the provider's official website.
- Make sure you're using the correct password.
If you recently changed it, your email app may need the new password.
- Check your mailbox storage if your provider gives you a storage limit.
If you received an unexpected email asking you to sign in or verify your account, don't click the link. Open your normal email app or type the provider's website yourself instead.
Stop here
If you believe someone may have accessed your email account, stop before making changes you don't understand.
Don't give your password or verification code to someone who unexpectedly contacts you.
If you're unsure whether an email or login request is legitimate, stop and get help.
